Chimiver ECOCROM | Acrylic Polyurethane Toning Primer | Where To Use It
A heavy duty acrylic-polyurethane water based toning primer compatible with all types of hardwood and semi-solid wood floors. Its main purpose is to darken up the wood slightly and to create a cozy finish on very bright types of wood. It can be successfully used on all “unsealed” wood floors, wood furniture, wood toys, wood doors, wood frames, wood worktops & other wood surfaces. It can only be used on raw wood materials. It can be applied in 1-2 coats depending on the level of color expected. Suitable for all kinds of indoor use. The product has no protective qualities so it requires overcoating with a two pack or a single pack water based floor lacquer.
Chimiver ECOCROM | Acrylic Polyurethane Toning Primer | How To Use It
To be guaranteed great results and a patch free finish, the user should start with the wood surface preparation. If you are dealing with old wood surfaces, then a full sanding process should be done before the surface is ready for priming. The new wood surfaces will require a fine sanding with 100 or 120 grit sanding paper before priming. For the wood primer to work and create that special colour, it has to penetrate the wood in full. Otherwise it will just dry up patchy.
Assuming that the wood surface is fully prepared, dust free, dry & fine sanded, the user can prepare for priming. A good quality varnishing brush and a professional quality varnishing roller is required. Making sure that you have enough product for the whole surface is another essential step. Shake the bottle well to create an even mixture and prepare for priming.
- Using the small varnishing brush, apply a thick coat of floor primer around the edges and around all the areas where the varnishing roller is unlikely to fit.
- Use a 25 cm varnishing roller (Chimiver Varnishing Roller) to apply the wood primer on the larger open spaces. Move along with the fiber of the wood. The surface has to look evenly wet but not soaked.
- Allow it to dry for about 2 hours (weather depending) and re-sand the whole surface one more time with 180 grit sanding paper. The point of this last sanding job is to remove all wood primer excess and all the residue that has hardened up on the top of the wood while in contact with the primer (mainly dust)
- Vacuum the surface well and prepare for lacquering
Bear in mind that it will take up to 2 hours for the wood primer to dry. Within this period of time, the wood surface will go through a number of colour changes. After the initial touch, the wood will darken up dramatically but it will dry much lighter. No need to worry.
Chimiver ECOCROM | Acrylic Polyurethane Toning Primer | Recommendations
There is no point in applying the new Chimiver ECOCROM | Acrylic Polyurethane Toning Primer on a very dark type of wood like mahogany, walnut or oak. It will dry nearly invisible. It’s peachy finish will only look good on bright types of wood like maple or red deal. Do not mix up the wood primer with any other types of wood primers or lacquers. Do not dilute the product. Do not apply the product on sealed hardwood floors. Do not apply the wood primer over any type of wood stains. Avoid touching any other surfaces that do not require priming. Clean all brushes and rollers straight away after you are done with it. Do not work in direct sunlight and keep the product away from extreme heat or cold.
