Bona Traffic Go | 2K Technology | High Traffic Floor Lacquer | How To Use It

There are two ways of using the new Bona Traffic Go | 2K Technology | High Traffic Floor Lacquer. You can use it to seal and protect new or newly sanded hardwood floors or you can use it to re-coat wooden floors that were sealed with a water based or a solvent based food lacquer that over time has become dull and tired looking.

1. New Or Newly Sanded Wood Floors | All pre-existing sealers have to be removed in full. Start with grit 40 and move up the grits up to 100 grit. Do not sand against the fiber of the wood as much as you can. Right before the lacquering, the surface has to be smooth enough to prevent all the lacquer being absorbed by the wood and deposited at the bottom of the floor but not that smooth so the lacquer cannot penetrate at all. Finishing the floor with 220 grit (example) will over finish the wood and the floor lacquer will not be able to penetrate the wood at all.

2. Pre-Existing Finishes | If you are planning to recoat an older floor that still looks good but a bit dull and patchy, then start with a deep cleaning job and a deep degreasing to remove any residue like oils, grease, fat, impregnated dirt, food, etc. All that dirt would be a barrier between the new coat of lacquer and the old finish. Then give the surface a light sanding with 120-180 grit sandpaper just to create a bit of roughness on the floor. That roughness will enable the new coat of lacquer to bond better with the old sealer

Prepare a varnishing roller, a varnishing brush, a varnishing roller frame and an extension pole or a wooden handle. You will also need a varnishing bucket or tray. Pour some floor lacquer inside the bucket | tray and proceed to lacquering.

1. Use the varnishing brush to apply the product around the edges and all hard ro reach areas.

2. Use the varnishing roller to roll the lacquer on the open spaces. Roll it up and down the fiber of the wood until the whole surface looks wet but not soaked.

3. Allow it to dry for about 2 hours. Assuming that the new Bona Traffic Go | 2K Technology | High Traffic Floor Lacquer was applied over a primed surface or pre-existing base surface. Now you have two options: you can re-sand the whole surface one more time with 220 grit sanding paper or you can apply the final coat without sanding between the coats. The re-sanding has to happen after the first coat of primer or lacquer. The second re-sanding after the second coat is optional but it can help to achieve a “glass” smooth finish.

The new Bona Traffic Go | 2K Technology | High Traffic Floor Lacquer is not compatible with oil based wood stains. Do not apply it as an overcoat over oiled floors. Do not mix up the product with any other floor lacquers. Respect the drying periods. Only apply the lacquer over a clean and dry surface. Do not use the product when the outside temperature is over 25 C. Store the product in a cool and dry place.
