However, the strength and durability of the wood floor is tied to how well it is taken care of. Right from the onset, it will need to have a protective finish applied, to increase its resistance to everyday wear effects. This, coupled with the routine vacuuming and cleaning, as well as the occasional sanding and refinishing when the old coats deteriorate, will be key to keep your wood floor in shape for longer. 

The choice of finish coats that are applied onto the wood floor in turn affects how much you will spend on the maintenance. After all, weak finishes will keep getting worn out, forcing you to dig deeper into your pocket to handle frequent repairs and even make replacements. Here, you want to work with a formulation that has been proven to deliver on its mandate. One that you can rely on to shield your wood floor from the barrage of abuse it receives on a daily basis. • Wear resistance

Abrasive effects caused by the friction of people walking on the floor on a daily basis gradually wears down the floor surface, with the frequently walked on areas developing traffic lanes. The effect is more pronounced when there are gritty dirt particles on the floor. This is because the parties are grinded against the surface, accelerating the wear. Sure, routine cleaning is needed to remove the dirt and debris to protect the floor. However, an extra layer of protection that increases the resistance of the wood to the everyday friction effects is needed, and you can get that from the Carver Omeg-Art Floor Lacquer. The two-component formulation comes with enhanced durability, protecting the underlying floor and enabling it to retain its structural integrity for longer. 

• Chemical resistance

The barrier of protection that is set by the Carver Omeg-Art Floor Lacquer coats applied onto the floor keeps spills from getting readily absorbed by the wood tissue, and also prevents the corrosive effects of those household chemicals that could wind up on the floor. This ranges from the cleaning agents used when dealing the occasional stubborn stains, all through to accidental chemical spills. That way you won’t have to worry about issues such as the wood floor getting bleached by the liquids that wind up on it. 

• Slip resistance

When it comes to the gloss level, this will depend on the version of the Carver Omeg-Art Floor Lacquer that you go for. The different options include:

• Semi Gloss sheen (50 gloss)
• Satin sheen (35 gloss)
• Matt sheen (5 gloss)
• NATURAL EFFECT: super matt sheen (6 gloss)

For those who want to achieve a colour change that resembles that of using a solvent-based finish, you can use 1-2 coats of the Carver Omeg-Art Floor Lacquer with the water-based primer RAFFELLO, also from the same brand. 

You can also go for a treatment cycle with colour toning, like is typically seen for solvent-based finishes. Here, start by applying a coat of FONDO K2 07, a solvent-based sealer. Allow at least a 6-hour drying time, then sand the surface with fine grit sandpaper (recommended 180-220 grit level), and add one coat of the Carver Omeg-Art Floor Lacquer. Note that the Natural Effect versions shouldn’t be used here. Also, during the intermediate sanding you should be particularly careful not to break through the sealer and get to the wood, which is why it is insisted that you use fine grit sandpaper.

Working With The Carver Omeg-Art

A few issues should be noted with treating your floor with this formulation:

• Ensure that the hardener that is added to the Carver Omeg-Art Floor Lacquer has dissolved completely in it.
• Ideal conditions for application are 15°C to 35°C for the temperature, and 35% to 75% for the relative humidity. These are the conditions in which you will get optimal results, allowing the finish coats to dry and cure properly.
• When the application is being done during the hot days, adding 5-10% water to the moisture being applied onto the floor, or topping it up with 2% DILUENTE GRIP will help to delay the drying process. 
• Observing drying times is critical for the treatment to provide optimal results. These include: 

• 3 hours before recoating the surface (this can be done without sanding the surface as long as it is within 6 hours)
• 5 hours before sanding and recoating. Note that this should be done within 30 hours. If this time window elapses, then the floor should be carefully sanded and washed with IDROCLEANER, then 5% DILUENTE GRIP added to the catalysed finish. 

Given that this is a water-based finish, the drying is fast. In fact, the treated floor surface will have dried to the touch in 30 minutes. This is particularly beneficial in avoiding cases of airborne particles getting trapped by wet finish coats. However, light traffic should only be allowed onto the area after 24 hours.
