Carver Primol Turbo Walnut Wood Stain – Coverage

All brands of wood stains, including Carver, will give you an idea of how much surface you are likely to cover with 1 L of wood stain. Because the new Carver Primol Turbo Walnut Wood Stain is so thick and so “workable”, this wood stain is sold in 1L bottles only. The recommended coverage area is informative only. It is up to you to take the most appropriate steps to increase its coverage and maximise your profits if you work or own a floor refinishing company.

  1. Sand the surface to perfection – a professionally sanded wood surface finished with 80 to 100 grit sandpaper is likely to absorb enough wood stain to create an even surface without over soaking the wood. If the wood was finished with 100 grit sandpaper & if the applicator is highly skilled, it is possible to achieve coverage of up to 70 sq meters of floor per 1 L. Otherwise you expect coverage of approx. 25 to 30 sq meters
  2. Application system – you can apply the wood stain in a number of ways depending on what type of wood surface you are planning to stain and of course the total size. The best and the most cost effective way of applying wood stain on large floor areas is with a low speed floor buffer and a microfiber cloth. By doing so you will maximise your coverage by 100%.
  3. The skill of the applicator – while some people can achieve good results, others can achieve amazing results. A bit of DIY skill can help you go a long way. The regular assessment of the area and knowing when the wood is fully stained can enable you to cover much more with only 1 L of wood stain.

Estimated coverage area for hand applications : 25-40 sq meters. Estimated coverage area for mechanical application (floor buffer) : up to 70 sq meters.

Carver Primol Turbo Walnut Wood Stain – How to apply it

All wood stains can only be applied to newly sanded or new wood surfaces. It is essential to make sure that the surface is sealant free and ready for staining. If you are attempting to apply the wood stain over a sealed wood surface, you will have a number of problems. First, the stain will not be able to penetrate and it will look all patchy. Then the wood stain will not be able to dry or, it will semi dry and exfoliate within a few hours. So to avoid all those issues please make sure that the wood surface is 100% sealant free, dust free & fully dry. Otherwise prepare for sanding.

To safely remove most types of sealants from wood furniture or wood floors, you should start sanding the surface with 40 grit sandpaper. The 40 grit sandpaper is aggressive enough to remove water based floor lacquers, oil based floor lacquers or all types of hard wax oils. The next step is to re-sand the whole area with 60 grit sandpaper. While sanding with 40 grit sandpaper, you have created some deep scratches on the wood fibres and you need to use grit 60, grit 80 and up to grit 100 to make sure that all those scratches are fully removed and will not be visible under the new coat of sealer. Professional floor sanding or floor refinishing companies can stop at grit 80, apply the stain & then apply sealants. Domestic users are recommended to go up to grit 100.

Assuming that the wood surface is perfectly sanded, dust free & dry, you can prepare for staining. You can use a cloth, you can use some type of applicator or you can use a floor buffer. It all depends on whether you are staining small or large areas, furniture or other types of wood surfaces. Put a pair of gloves on, shake the tin of stain for at least 30 seconds to make sure that all the pigment deposited at the bottom of the tin is fully mixed. Place the cloth in and start applying the wood stain to the wood. Always move along with the fibre of the wood and not against it. Rub the cloth well until the wood surface has changed colour. Unevenly coloured areas can be quickly repaired by going over one more time. Be careful not to touch painted surfaces or any areas that are not supposed to get treated. About 2-4 hours later you are ready to seal the newly stained surface.

Carver Primol Turbo Walnut Wood Stain – What sealant to use?

This is a personal option. While some people love the look and the softness of floor lacquers, others are looking for a more rustic feeling so they will go for a traditional floor oil. Here are the two options available:

Carver Carsol Traditional Floor Oil

Carver Omeg-Art Floor Lacquer, Carver Epsilon or Carver Matt Floor Lacquer

If you have decided to go for a high traffic floor oil like the new Carver Carsol Traditional Floor Oil, then you just have to make sure that the wood stain is fully dry and ready for recoating. One coat of Carver Carsol Traditional Floor Oil is more than enough to have your floor fully sealed. But you can apply as many coats of floor oil as you wish. Just bear in mind that with every extra coat of floor you will lose a bit of its “natural” feeling and you can end up over-glazing the wood.

If a floor lacquer person, then you can go for a two pack water based floor lacquer or a solvent based floor lacquer. You have to use a two pack floor lacquer to overcoat an oil based wood stain. If you are happy to use solvent based floor lacquers, then a single or two pack will work well. You can actually achieve the most natural finish with water based floor lacquers. The advantage is that the floor will require less maintenance and it will last for much longer even with high footfall.

Carver Primol Turbo Walnut Wood Stain – Indoor & Outdoor

You can use it to stain all types of solid and semi solid wood floors, furniture, frames, doors, skirting boards, garden furniture, fences, decking, handles, etc. The only difference between outdoor and indoor use is that the overcoating sealer has to be suitable for outdoor use. Carver Primol Turbo Walnut Wood Stain  – Recommendation & Safety

This is one of the most efficient, cost effective & environmentally friendly wood stains available on the market. Make sure that you are 100% happy with the colour and that your particular wood surface will benefit from being stained with the new Carver Primol Turbo Walnut Wood Stain. The job of a wood stain is to enhance, enrich and even up discolorations on wooden surfaces. While some types of wood floors or furniture can look amazing stained, others can look silly. Make sure that you buy enough wood stain to be able to cover the whole project. It is even recommended to buy a bit extra for touch up projects. To avoid creating more trouble for yourself, make sure that the wood is sanded to perfection and that you do not use more wood stain than needed. All cloths and all floor pads used to stain the wood have to be disposed of in a responsible way. Remember to soak all cloths in water before putting it in a bin. If the right conditions are met, sometimes stain impregnated cloths can ignite and start fires. Never ever mix up different types of wood stains. Each brand of wood stain has a different consistency, different level of pigmentation and in some cases, 100% different chemical composition. You can end up creating patchy finishes and destroying your beautiful floors.
